Panel says Tuđman, war veterans and unity government key to independence

ZAGREB, 7 May (Hina) - Croatia’s first president Franjo Tuđman, the government of democratic unity and Croatian war veterans played a key role in the country’s independence in the early 1990s, participants said on Thursday at a conference marking 35 years of independent Croatia, while also pointing to shortcomings in democratisation and privatisation.
