This photograph shows the statue of Joan of Arc without a sword following its theft and the Saint-Augustin Church, at Place Saint-Augustin in Paris on January 3, 2026. A man was taken into custody after stealing the sword blade from a statue of Joan of Arc in Paris's 8th arrondissement, AFP learned on January 2, 2026, from a police source. The equestrian statue of Joan of Arc is a work by the French sculptor Paul Dubois, created at the end of the 19th century. Once displayed in front of the Pantheon, it is the only Parisian statue depicting "The Maid of Orleans" brandishing a sword in her right hand. (Photo by Blanca CRUZ / AFP)
