Trio Kamov to perform in Chile marking Croatia’s Statehood Day

ZAGREB, 28 May (Hina) - Croatian classical ensemble Trio Kamov will perform on Saturday in the Chilean city of Punta Arenas to mark Croatia’s Statehood Day, with descendants of Croats living in the South American country expected to attend.

Mayor Claudio Radonich, who is of Croatian descent, urged residents not to miss the cultural event.

“We will have a concert of high quality. This is an ensemble on a South American tour that is coming to our city to delight us with string instruments and piano,” the mayor’s office said, highlighting the historical and cultural ties between the Magallanes region and Croatia.

Croats from Dalmatia began arriving in Punta Arenas in the second half of the 19th century, driven by vine disease, the decline of shipyards and poverty.

Invitations for the concert at the city theatre are being distributed on Thursday and Friday, with the event supported by the Croatian embassy in Chile.

Trio Kamov was founded in Rijeka and has operated as a professional ensemble since 2021. It is named after Croatian writer Janko Polić Kamov, a representative of the Croatian avant-garde.
