SLOVENIA-POLITICS-GOVERNMENT
Right-wing Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) leader Janez Jansa addresses members of the National Assembly ahead of his investiture vote as Prime minister in Ljubljana on May 22, 2026. Jansa, 67, said on May 18, 2026 his Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) had reached a coalition deal with two centre-right parties -- Christian democratic party Nova Slovenija and his former close ally Anze Logar's Democrats -- giving them 43 out of 90 seats in parliament. If confirmed, Jansa would begin a fourth term as prime minister, two months after Slovenia's inconclusive March 22 parliamentary election in which his party and outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob's Freedom Movement finished virtually tied.
