The gathering was held at the home of Patricia Avila Kuljiš, a representative of the local community. “Children love this tradition,” she told Hina on Sunday.
Croatians come together each year at Easter to pass customs on to younger generations and prevent them from fading.
Participants decorated Easter eggs in various colours and shared traditional foods including pinca and other Croatian dishes.
The breakfast was streamed via Facebook, Zoom and TikTok, allowing around 50 people from the Bolivian cities of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, as well as from Chile, Peru and Argentina, to join.
Rorka Barberich demonstrated egg-decorating techniques to participants online. “We wanted families to gather and celebrate Easter in the same way as families in Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and other Croatian towns,” she said.
About 5,000 Croatians and their descendants live in Bolivia, according to Croatia’s Central State Office for Croats Abroad.
In previous years, the community has organised Easter egg exhibitions in Bolivia to showcase their traditions to the wider public.
