Signed at the Cultural and Information Centre of North Macedonia in Zagreb, the agreement seeks to foster the development of joint and individual programmes, enhancing the capacities of both institutions, with a focus on linking their extensive collections, from historical holdings to contemporary art and applied arts.
The agreement was signed by Sanjin Mihelić, director of MUO, and Ali Sinani, director of the National Gallery, one of North Macedonia’s most important cultural institutions.
Sinani said the agreement will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience and open up new opportunities for North Macedonian and Croatian cultural professionals and artists to network.
Mihelić announced upcoming exhibitions resulting from previous collaborations: two shows will be held in Skopje this year – Arsovski – Photographers at the Museum of the City of Skopje during October and November, and Menče Spirovska: Visual Fascinations of Zagreb in the same period at the National Gallery.
Maja Krstevska, programme manager at the National Gallery, welcomed the collaboration, highlighting the gallery’s 80-year tradition and noting that its significance will be further recognised in 2028 when Skopje becomes a European Capital of Culture.
Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska, director of North Macedonia’s Cultural and Information Centre in Zagreb, said she was pleased that cooperation with MUO began last year and that the centre aims to promote even greater collaboration between North Macedonian and Croatian institutions in support of the cultural values of both countries.
The Cultural and Information Centre in Zagreb regularly hosts exhibitions of North Macedonian artists. A current show features Archival Documents by the internationally acclaimed Žaneta Vangeli.
