In Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a city in eastern Bolivia, Bolivian Cinema Day was marked on Saturday, during which several awards were presented.
The Last Blues of the Croat begins with the unnoticed death of Dražen, a reclusive rock and blues musician. The landlady of the room he was renting contacts Perla, his only friend, who, deeply shaken, turns to an old acquaintance, Willy, to accompany her and confirm what she feared: Dražen is dead, and his body lies in the morgue.
Perla and Willy have just 72 hours to prevent him from being buried in a common grave. With no money, no documents, and no family, it seems like an impossible task. Yet they are determined to give Dražen a dignified farewell, confronting their own pasts and the lasting impact music, his final blues, had on their lives.
The film was written and directed by Alejandro Suárez and produced by Marco Antonio Cortez. The lead roles are played by Mariana Bredow and Pedro Grossman.
Drago Dogan, the Croatian musician who inspired the film, moved to Bolivia in the late 1980s, where he left a lasting legacy in the local blues and rock scene. He passed away in 2019.
