72nd Pula Film Festival begins

ZAGREB, 11 July (Hina) - The 72nd Pula Film Festival, opened on Thursday evening with the premiere screening of the comedy Južina ("South Wind"), directed by Ante Marin in the Arena amphitheatre, the city's landmark.

The official opening ceremony, attended by the festival’s patron, Croatian President Zoran Milanović, was hosted by Pula-based actresses Dijana Vidušin and Nika Ivančić.

The Festival’s Artistic Director, Danijel Pek, and Programme Selector, Mario Kozina, introduced the films featured in the Croatian competition programme.

This year’s Festival received 57 submissions for the Main Programme, including 37 for the Croatian Film section and 17 for the Minority Co-productions section.

Eleven titles were selected for the Croatian Programme and seven for the Minority Co-productions.

The winners of the Golden Arenas will be decided by a five-member jury consisting of actress Tihana Lazović, screenwriter Jelena Paljan, editor Tomislav Pavlic, actor Janko Popović Volarić, and director and cinematographer Silvestar Kolbas.

The festival ends on 17 July.
