Germany's Isar Aerospace plans to blast a rocket into space from Norway on January 21, 2026 as Europe races to boost its ability to send satellites into orbit independent of the United States. Barring poor weather and any technical problems, Isar's 28-metre-long Spectrum rocket carrying six satellites will lift off after 2000 GMT from Andoya spaceport, north of the Arctic Circle. While France's Arianespace has long operated from French Guiana, Europe is betting on Isar and other companies to more cheaply launch satellites, like Elon Musk's SpaceX has done in the United States.
