Legendary Hungarian filmmaker Bela Tarr died on January 6, 2026 at the age of 70, director Bence Fliegauf informed national news agency MTI on behalf of the family. Tarr was best known for the best known for directing the movie "Satantango" (1994), a seven-hour epic about the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and its material and spiritual decline, adapted from the novel by Nobel laureate Laszlo Krasznahorkai, whom he frequently collaborated with.
