SPACE ANTARCTICA PINE ISLAND GLACIER
epa08219072 A handout picture made available by the European Space Agency (ESA) of an almost cloud-free image captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission showing freshly broken bergs from the Pine Island Glacier (PIG), Antarctica, 11 February 2020 (issued 15 February 2020). On 09 February 2020 ESA satellites observed that icebergs calved from the glacier. The Pine Island Glacier, along with its neighbor Thwaites glacier, connect the center of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet with the ocean, and together discharge significant quantities of ice into the ocean.
