The exhibitions, organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Peru, feature Shipibo-Konibo: Portraits of My People, a photographic series by indigenous Peruvian photographer David Díaz Gonzáles, and The Travelling Bull of Pucará – A Symbol of the Peruvian Highlands, dedicated to the iconic ceramic bull of the Andes.
At a press conference, Peru's ambassador to Croatia, Edgard Pérez Alván, said the exhibitions aimed to give Croatian audiences an authentic insight into Peru's cultural diversity.
Díaz, a member of the indigenous Shipibo-Konibo community from Peru's Amazon region, documents the lives of people from his own community, offering an insider's perspective that challenges stereotypical portrayals of indigenous peoples. His award-winning black-and-white photographs explore memory, identity and cultural continuity.
Museum director Zvjezdana Antoš said the exhibitions marked the beginning of broader cooperation with Peruvian cultural institutions, including possible exchanges of expertise in textile heritage.
The exhibitions run until 16 August.
