Mary's Meals: Charity runs in Croatia raise funds for meals for 647 African children

ZAGREB, 26 May (Hina) - Charity runs organised by Mary's Meals in three Croatian cities -- Zagreb, Split and Slavonski Brod -- have secured meals and education for 647 schoolchildren in Africa, the international humanitarian organisation, which also operates in Croatia, reported on Tuesday.

At the 12th charity race, “Run for One More Meal”, held at Bundek in Zagreb last Sunday, donations collected thanks to the generosity of Zagreb residents will provide meals and education for as many as 228 children throughout the entire school year in Benin.

At the school kitchen “Zagreb, Croatia”, located in Benin, 689 children receive meals every day.

Representatives of Mary's Meals expressed their gratitude to all sponsors, donors and volunteers who helped organise the races and provide these life-saving meals.

The race in Split secured meals at places of education for 128 children, while the race in Slavonski Brod did so for 291 children, the organisation said, reminding the public that, on average, just €22 is enough to provide one child with meals throughout the entire school year.

The association Mary's Meals Croatia is part of the international humanitarian organisation Mary’s Meals, which provides one daily meal at places of education in order to attract poor children into classrooms, where they receive an education that may, in the future, offer them a route out of poverty.

The organisation currently provides daily meals for three million children through school feeding programmes in 16 countries: India, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, South Sudan, Zambia, Ethiopia, Syria, Lebanon, Benin, Ecuador, Haiti, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Yemen and Mozambique.
