The 2.5-metre-high fibreglass eggs, each 1.6 metres wide, were decorated by local artists and placed in a park outside Palmares Mall, where residents and tourists can view them.
“Painting large Easter eggs is our most visible event, reflecting a long Croatian tradition and our identity,” Arturo Štokić, a member of the Croatian Home in Mendoza, told Hina on Friday.
The event, dubbed “Good Wine and Happy Easter”, coincides with the end of the grape harvest and wine production in Mendoza, home to about 800 people of Croatian descent.
City authorities see the display as a tourist attraction in a region shaped by late 19th-century immigration, including from Italy, Spain and Croatia.
Organised by the Croatian Home, the event was first held in 2022 and has since been declared of cultural interest by local and regional authorities.
Artists created unique designs combining Croatian motifs with local themes. One featured a landscape merging Plitvice Lakes with the nearby Potrerillos dam, while others incorporated wine imagery reflecting Mendoza’s Malbec and Croatia’s Graševina.
The best works will be awarded by a jury including cultural officials, academics and organisers.
“We are proud of this event as it brings together centuries-old Croatian tradition with the culture of wine and the Andes,” Štokić said.
