Croatians win 5 medals at Dubai 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix

ZAGREB, 14 Feb (Hina) - The para athletics season opened in Dubai with a 9-13 February WPA Grand Prix meeting featuring eight Croatian para athletes, with five of them winning medals: three gold and two bronze medals.

Mikela Ristoski won the T20 long jump with 5.04m. Velimir Šandor (F52) triumphed in the F51–53 discus with a throw of 16.90m in the third round, while Željka Brdar claimed gold in the F56 shot put with 6.64m.

Erik Fabian Kaurin (F46) took bronze in the F42/46 shot put with 14.00m, and Marin Županović finished third in the F54/55 discus with 21.10m. Županović also competed in the F53–57 javelin, placing sixth with 21.41m.

In addition to her shot put victory, Brdar set a new national record in the F56 javelin with 14.96m, improving her previous national and personal best by 98cm. She finished fourth overall in that event.

Mirnes Omerhodžić also finished fourth, in the F51 club throw, with a mark of 24.38m from his first attempt.

Martina Krog set a national record in the F46 shot put with 10.14m, ultimately finishing fifth.

Competing at his first WPA Grand Prix meeting, Dorian Kocek (T37) was disqualified in the 100m T37/38 after a false start. In the 200m T37, however, he set a national record of 31.44 seconds. Racing in the combined T35/37/38 event, he placed eighth overall.

A further seven Grand Prix meetings will be held this year in New Delhi, Rabat, Nottwil, Tunis, Olomouc,  Jalisco and Cali.
