Croatian men's handball team Deaflympics champion for sixth time

ZAGREB, 25 Nov (Hina) -The Croatian men's handball team on Tuesday wrote a new page in history at the Deaflympic Games, defeating Germany 30–23 (12–12) in the final game in Tokyo and finishing on the top step of the podium for the sixth time at this competition.

The Croatian handball players thus defended the title won three years ago in Brazil, and this is their ninth Deaflympic medal overall. In addition to six gold medals, they also have a silver from Copenhagen in 1997 and two bronze medals from Sofia in 1993 and Samsun in 2017.

This was a special match for captain Oliver Lušić, as it marked his farewell from the national team.

"This is my sixth Olympic medal, my fifth gold. I thought my first would always be my favourite, but this one is particularly emotional and especially important," he said.

Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković sent his congratulations to the Croatian men’s handball team on winning the gold medal at the Deaflympic Games in Japan.
