More than 2,200 participants from Croatia and abroad take part in Đakovo parade

ZAGREB, 6 July (Hina) - More than 2,200 participants from 45 folklore and other groups from Croatia and around the world paraded through the main streets of the eastern city of Đakovo on Sunday in the ceremonial procession of the 59th Đakovački Vezovi festival.

The parade is the highlight of Đakovački Vezovi, a festival celebrating traditional culture.

In addition to folklore ensembles from the Đakovo area, the Slavonia region and across Croatia, the event also featured performers from South Korea, Costa Rica, Croatian communities in the United States, the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The parade included 40 decorated wedding carriages and 80 horse riders.

Participants also included breeders of Croatian sheepdogs, Lipizzaner horses from the Đakovo State Stud Farm, Slavonian whipcrackers, men in traditional costume firing ceremonial pistols from northern Croatia, the Đakovo majorettes, brass bands from local fire brigades, and others.

Alongside the Slavonian groups, the parade featured folklore from Istria and central Croatia, as well as Slovak and Hungarian traditions.

The South Korean group performed a drum dance, while the Costa Rican ensemble showcased Latin dances and rhythms.

The festival closes on Sunday evening in the city's Strossmayer Park with the traditional programme, which includes the selection of the most beautiful traditional costumes.
