During this month-long campaign there will be an Open Day at the Institute of the Croatian Language, a Day of the Croatian Glagolitic Script and Glagolitism, as well as a special programme for secondary school students.
This "month" kicks off on 21 February when International Mother Language Day is observed, according to UNESCO's decision in 1999. The drive ends on 17 March in memory of the 17 March 1967 when the Declaration on the Name and Status of the Croatian Language was adopted.
The Month itself, organised at the initiative of the Institute for the Croatian Language, has been celebrated since 2014.
Bartol Kašić, who was born on 15 August 1575 and died on 28 December 1650, was a Croatian Jesuit, scientist and grammarian, who wrote the first grammar of the Croatian language in Latin "Temelji ilirskoga jezika" in two books (Institutionum linguae illyricae libri duo, 1604, translated into Croatian in 2002). With this work, he directly influenced Croatian grammarians all the way until the Revival period.
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Media, the Bartol Kašić Days will be held from 5 to 7 November, featuring scientific conferences in Zagreb, in collaboration with the Croatian Philological Society and the Faculty of Humanities in Zagreb, as well as in Pag, Kašić's birthplace, in collaboration with the City of Pag and the local branch of the Matica Hrvatska cultural institution.
