Croatia's Marčinko wins Australian Open junior girls title

ZAGREB, 29 Jan (Hina) - Croatian tennis player, Junior No.1 Petra Marčinko, on Saturday won the 2022 Australian Open juniors event, when she defeated Belgian Sofia Costulas 7-5, 6-1.

The final match of the tournament between the two 16-year-old players lasted an hour and 16 minutes.

According to the information on the Women's Tennis Association  website, Marčinko "won her 14th straight match, beating No.8 seed Sofia Costoulas to win her first junior Grand Slam title."

This 16-year-old girl from Zagreb is thus the fourth Croatian to capture the Australian Open junior girls title, after Mirjana Lučić, Jelena Kostanić and Ana Konjuh managed that in 1997, 1998 and 2013 respectively.
