The project was developed in collaboration with the City of Zagreb's departments, the Medvednica Nature Park Public Institution, the Croatian Mountaineering Association (HPS), the Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), local hikers, and other partners.
According to Martina Bienenfeld, Director of the TZGZ, the initiative aligns with global tourism trends, particularly those linked to active tourism, natural heritage, and so-called "slow travel," which promotes more relaxed, off-the-beaten-path experiences where nature not only provides leisure and enjoyment but also a therapeutic effect.
The project’s slogan, "Beneath the sky. Above the city. Medvednica", highlights the fact that this Nature Park, stretching from the eastern to the western edge of the city, with its highest peak, Sljeme, just over 1,000 metres above sea level, lies right next to the city centre and is easily accessible.
Mayor Tomislav Tomašević noted that this makes Zagreb one of the few European capitals where visitors can reach such a green oasis of clean air and unspoilt nature in just a short time, by tram, on foot, by bike, cable car, or other means of transport.
